Our goal is to make the manufacturing industry a safer place to work and create a culture of safety where every worker safely returns home to his or her family each night. The Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC (“the Alliance”) was established to reduce injuries in the industry. We serve a demographic of more than 3000 manufacturers in BC and employ a professional team of health and safety specialists to support our members. We deliver a range of occupational health and safety advisory services, resources, training, and provide the Occupational Safety Standard Program for the manufacturing industry.

Profile Summary

The role is to identify opportunities to enable the Alliance fulfill its vision through active engagement with manufacturers and associated partners.

This includes:

(i) identifying new leads through strategy and innovation;

(ii) engaging the target demographic using a professional approach and passion; and

(iii) building and maintaining relationships with clients, partners, and associated stakeholders.

This is a full-time salaried position, based at Chilliwack BC, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The role will involve travel throughout BC but will be concentrated in the Lower Mainland.

Typical activities and responsibilities

· Plan and execute organization’s business development initiatives with mission-focused outcomes

· Develop new business/revenue generating initiatives to augment existing products and services

· Develop and engage partners as required to optimize business development opportunities

· Identify/Engage/Secure new members in alignment with Business KPIs

· Develop outreach strategies, targeting communication with key decision makers of potential clients

· Work in collaboration with the marketing team in identifying events and programs to sponsor or attend

· Manage departmental and individual budget in coordination with the senior management team

· Provide support in the fiscal planning of the organization

· Lead and coordinate activities within the department

· Be a mentor to team members and play an active role in people development

· Operational management of organizational quality and performance activities related to the department

· Achieve annual business plan targets and KPIs as assigned for the department

· Research and deliver intelligence to enable proposal development for new investment projects

· Complete comprehensive reviews of target markets, subsequent prospects, and engagement strategies; compile ROI for all prospects

· Maintain a network of contacts that will support the work of the Stakeholder Relations team and contribute towards communication planning and delivery to that network

· Participate in peer group engagements

· Update the CRM system to provide accurate management information

Skills and Experience

· 8+ years of demonstrated experience in successfully developing and mainitaining business relationships; including atleast 5 years in a people management role

· Ability to navigate corporate structures to identify decision makers

· Able to communicate and converse effectively with senior executives

· Previous outbound business-to-business phone marketing or sales experience

· Professional approach to prospective clients: active listening skills and an inquisitive nature

· Proven success in business development, including revenue generation

· Demonstrated ability to conduct effective cold calls – in person or via telephone engagements; experience of proactively generating leads

· An entrepreneurial spirit and hunger to develop new business

· Exceptional organizational skills (juggle appointments, phone calls and reporting)

· Proven experience in successfully developing people

· Well-versed in the use of Microsoft Office products, Excel databases and CRM systems

· Passion for the importance of health and safety and business development

· Understanding of / exposure to a non-profit environment will be an advantage


· Post secondary graduation in Marketing, Commerce, Business/Public Administration or equivalent
