Ergonomics 101 Fundamentals
Ergonomics is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system; it is concerned with the “fit” between the user, equipment and their environments. Ergonomics takes account of the user’s capabilities and limitations in seeking to ensure that tasks, functions, information and the environment suit each user.
Ergonomics utilizes a systems approach to understand various contributing factors and the interventions needed. Proper ergonomic design is necessary to prevent repetitive strain injuries and other musculoskeletal disorders, which can develop over time and can lead to long-term disability.
This course will provide participants with the basic principles and concepts of Ergonomics so that they understand the importance of application of ergonomic principles in the workplace.
This course is structured as a one (1) day course but can be modified to meet content and duration requirements. The online version is structured as a two hour course.
This course is designed to introduce the fundamentals of Ergonomics to managers, supervisors and employees.
Previous health and safety education and/or experience is an asset but not required.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Basic Ergonomic principles and concepts
- Importance of Ergonomics in reducing MSI/MSDs
- Contributing factors towards MSI/MSDs
- Control programs for MSI/MSDs
