Colleen is an experienced safety professional with a diverse background spanning restoration, education, construction, and manufacturing. Throughout her career, She has worn many professional hats, which has allowed her to develop a well-rounded and practical approach to occupational health and safety.
She began her safety career as a Journeyman Restorer in the fire and water damage restoration industry, where she gained hands-on experience working in high-risk environments and responding to emergency situations. After the birth of her first child, she transitioned into education, earning her Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification and worked as a Special Education Assistant (SEA), supporting students with diverse and complex needs. During this time, she continued working in safety roles throughout the summer months, maintaining her professional connection to the field.
Colleen's safety career progressed fully within the construction industry and later expanded into manufacturing. While these industries present distinct challenges, she found many similarities in the foundational principles of hazard identification, risk management, regulatory compliance, and worker engagement, which she applies consistently across environments.
She holds professional accreditation through ASTTBC as a Registered Construction Safety Officer (RCSO) and Construction Safety Technologist (CST). She recently completed the Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) program through the University of Victoria and will be writing the BCRST examination in March. She is also a trained MSA internal auditor and is currently on the list to complete the external auditor course.
Safety and education are at the core of her professional identity. She is deeply committed to protecting workers, strengthening safety culture, and continuously advancing her knowledge and skills. Safety is not just her career, it is her life and passion.
