Gurleen Bhatia is a dedicated educator and occupational health and safety professional with a passion for advancing worker health and safety both locally and globally. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health from BCIT and a Master’s degree in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene from the University of British Columbia. Her career began as an Environmental Health Officer, focusing on public health protection, before transitioning into occupational health and safety.
Gurleen currently serves as the Education Director for the AIHA BC-Yukon Local Chapter, where she leads educational programming and helps foster professional development within the occupational hygiene and safety community. Nationally, she’s the secretary of AIHA’s Emerging Economies Microgrant Advisory Group, where she contributes to global capacity-building by supporting OHS initiatives in under-resourced regions.
In her current role at BCIT, she supervises student-led safety program review projects, emphasizing practical skill development and critical thinking beyond the classroom. Most recently, she contributed internationally as a presenter at Vietnam’s OSHE 2024 Conference, nationally at the BCRSP 2025 National Education Symposium on the practical applications of large language models in post-secondary education, and locally through podcast engagements focused on psychological health and safety and workplace resilience.
