Info

Technical safety knowledge is essential, but lasting safety performance depends just as much on the quality of everyday conversations. This practical workshop introduces coaching as a critical communication skill. Learn how to use the GROW coaching model to strengthen ownership, improve decision-making, encourage early reporting of hazards, and build a stronger safety culture.

Through discussion, demonstrations, realistic workplace scenarios, and practice exercises, develop practical coaching skills you can apply immediately—in day-to-day safety conversations, during observations, incident debriefs, and walkarounds.

Leave this workshop confident in your ability to:

  • Explain why effective safety conversations are critical to safety performance.
  • Apply the GROW coaching model to short, focused workplace safety conversations.
  • Use coaching questions to improve ownership, problem solving, and safe decision-making.
  • Build psychological safety that encourages speaking up, reporting, and learning.
  • Recognize and reinforce safe behaviours to strengthen safety culture.
  • Respond to mistakes and near misses in ways that promote learning while maintaining accountability.
  • Distinguish between directing and coaching, and know when each approach is appropriate.
  • Conduct practical coaching conversations that improve hazard recognition, follow-through, and safer work.
