Storytelling in Safety Communication

Storytelling in Safety Communication
OCTOBER 28, 2026 1:00PM - 1:45PM

Despite the widespread use of personal stories in safety contexts, there has been limited research on the impact of stories in safety training.

In two St. Mary's University experimental studies published in the Journal of Occupational Safety, Rebecca Cairns and Kevin Calloway explored the role of stories in the communication of safety information. In this session, improve the impact of your safety storytelling with insights into how different story types influence safety knowledge transfer and behavioural intentions.
