Mr. Michael W. Herald is working as the Lead Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC External OSSE (COR) Auditor for Blackbird EHS Consulting Services Inc. located in North Vancouver, BC.
Michael has completed hundreds of compliance and management system audits for many industries including food and beverage, and performed audits on behalf of government agencies. He has over 25 years of consulting experience. He has conducted audits in Canada and in countries including the United States, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Macedonia, Ecuador and Mexico.

Michael has conducted ISO14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) registration and surveillance audits as a contract auditor or for a large international registration organization, and assisted organizations in developing integrated ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
In addition, Michael has led several WorkSafe BC COR Safety Management System registration or surveillance audits to date for clients who were or will be seeking certification through WorkSafe’s key Certifying Partners Program.

Coffee Roasting
In Vancouver, BC, Michael is currently assisting a coffee roasting company develop and implement a safety management system that conforms to the Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC OSSE program. Michael first completed a health and safety audit of the organization based on the Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC OSSE audit tool. He then prioritized audit findings by risk, so the company can focus on the higher priority items. He helped develop the organization’s Health and Safety Policy, and will be completing health and safety training for staff.
Fruit Juice and Fruit Products
Michael served as Audit Team Leader and Project Manager on an EMS review and environmental compliance audit for a large fruit juice and food manufacturer in Kelowna, British Columbia. The audit team consisted of two other individuals and the scope included an ISO 14001 gap analysis and verifying compliance with waste, air and water federal, provincial and local regulations.
Bakeries
In Delta, BC, Michael completed two environmental site assessments and compliance reviews of bakeries that produced buns and specialty breads. Work was performed on behalf of the property owners.
In Richmond, BC, Michael served as Audit Team Leader and Project Manager in a comprehensive health and safety compliance audit of a bakery that produced tortilla chips, pita bread and taco shells for a large national baking company. The audit lasted three days and was completed with two auditors.
Ice Cream, Beer and Cola
In Richmond, BC, Los Angeles, California, and Merrimack, New Hampshire, Michael assisted in conducting hazard and risk assessments of ammonia refrigeration systems for ice cream, beer and cola manufacturers.
Personal Care Products
In Mexico City, Mexico, Michael served as day to day leader and auditor on a health and safety audit of a personal care products manufacturing plant. The plant operated 24 hours a day and employed 3,500 personnel. He was personally responsible for covering the areas of emergency response, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and material handling equipment.
