Neil Allen is a Certified Senior Occupational Health and Safety Management System, Regulatory Compliance (Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental), and Environmental Management System Auditor based in North Vancouver, BC.
He is also an accredited Green Marine Verification Auditor.
Before settling in Canada in 2004, Neil was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Auckland, a Masters degree in Science from the Auckland School of Medicine, and a Post Graduate Degree in Environmental Management from the University of Waikato in New Zealand.
Neil has over 22 years of consulting experience in Canada, New Zealand, Australia and India, specializing mainly in the maritime, manufacturing, mining, food production, and retail sectors.
He is a Certified COR/OSSE Auditor with three safety Associations in BC and Alberta – Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC, Safety Driven, and the Alberta Safety Council.
He was also a Certified COR Auditor with the BC Maritime Employer’s Association for 10 years until the BCMEA removed itself from the COR program in early 2018.
He is also an OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor, and Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditor (CHSMSA) with the Auditing Association of Canada, and a dual Certified Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Lead Auditor to ISO 14001:2015 [EP(EMSLA)] and Regulatory Compliance Auditor [EP(CEA)] (Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental) with ECO Canada.
He is also a GHG Verification Auditor to ISO 140064-3, Certified Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Verification Auditor certified by the Mining Association of Canada (MAC), and a Certified Green Marine Verification Auditor accredited with Green Marine.
His key OSSE/COR Audit experience to date includes over 50 external COR program Safety Management System audits and COR Re-certification audits, several preliminary review / gap analysis audits against COR requirements, and training and supervision for clients on internal COR maintenance Audits for a number of large clients, including BC Ferries, Wal-Mart Canada Corp., Canadian Tire (PartSource Stores), DP World Inc, Canadian Stevedoring (a subsidiary of DP World), Pacific Coast Terminals, Vanterm and Delta Port, Neptune Bulk Terminals, Fraser Surrey Docks/Pacific Stevedoring, Phoenix Truck & Crane, Atlas Copco Thiessen’s Langley facility, Canexus (ChemTrade) Corporation, Westshore Coal Terminal, First Student Canada, and New Gold Inc.
Other projects include Environmental and Health and Safety Audits for BC Transit, Tymac Launch Service Ltd., BCB Corporation Services Ltd.’s Norcan Canada Langley and Saskatoon facilities, Benkin Sheet Metal Ltd., Graymont Western Canada Inc.’s Pavilion Plant, Tourmaline Oil Corp., Glencore’s Raglan nickel mine, Vale Canada’s former Inco facilities, Barrick Gold’s Hemlo Operations, BMW Manufacturing Co., L.L.C, Public Works Department – City of St. Albert, and Nexen Inc.
Neil has also completed COR Verification Audits and subsequent Limited Scope Audits on behalf of WorkSafeBC, as well as other COR related assignments including revisions to the BCMEA’s COR Auditor training program manual and presentation slides, and development of slides, training materials, and final exam for the BCMEA’s SECOR (Small Employer COR) Auditor training program.
Neil has also delivered four rounds of COR Large Employer Auditor training to employers including Nanaimo Ship Yards and a pilot training program for SECOR.
