Active Listening

Effective communication is crucial for personal and professional success, and active listening enhances the ability to truly understand, process, and respond to information. Whether in the workplace, at home, or in social interactions, strong listening skills foster deeper connections and improved collaboration. 

The purpose of this online course is to introduce learners to the essential skills of active listening.  

Goals and Objectives

By the end of this course, the participants should be able to: 

  • Identify the core elements and benefits of active listening 
  • Identify non-verbal cues to better understand the speaker’s message 
  • Identify how attitudes and empathy contribute to effective communication 
  • Identify techniques to ask meaningful questions, paraphrase responses, and build rapport 
  • Analyze listening barriers and implement strategies to overcome them 
  • Develop a plan to integrate active listening skills into daily interactions

This course is intended for a wide audience in the manufacturing sector and beyond, including:

  • managers

  • Joint Health and Safety Committee members

Course Length and Format

The eLearning course is structured using self-paced online components including various practical learning activities in each module. Modules are supported with various resources and examples. It is estimated to take 1.5 hours to complete the training. We recommend completing the course in one sitting, but it does not need to be, as your progress will be tracked throughout.

Participants must have access to a laptop/desktop computer or iPad/tablet to attend the training sessions.  A good internet or WIFI connection is essential.

Pre-requisites

Previous health and safety education and/or experience is an asset but not required.

Course Evaluation

There is a written assessment for this course. Upon successful completion of all course modules and the written assessment, learners will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Learners will need to complete all 2 course elements (Learning Component and Post-course assessment) to be able to download their certificate of completion.
