Developing a Safety Procedures Manual

With consistent safety procedures, organizations can foster safer working environments, reduce injury-related downtime, and boost productivity. This course will provide participants with the foundation needed to start writing safety procedures that are clear, concise, and practical for day-to-day use. 

This online course will introduces participants to the critical process of developing effective safety procedures, which form the backbone of an organization’s safety management system. 

Goals and Objectives

By the end of this course, the participant should be able to: 

  • Develop a safety procedure template 
  • Develop a flowchart to accurately depict process activities 
  • Use brainstorming to gather necessary information for safety procedure creation 
  • Understand a variety of procedure types (step-by-step, playscript, decision tree, decision tables) 
  • Write and revise step-by-step safety procedures  
  • Add communication elements to safety procedures

Course Length and Format

The eLearning course is structured using self-paced online components including various practical learning activities in each module. Modules are supported with various resources and examples. It is estimated to take 5 hours to complete the training. We recommend completing the course in one sitting, but it does not need to be, as your progress will be tracked throughout.

Participants must have access to a laptop/desktop computer or iPad/tablet to attend the training sessions.  A good internet or WIFI connection is essential.

Pre-requisites

Previous health and safety education and/or experience is an asset but not required.

Course Evaluation

There is a written assessment for this course. Upon successful completion of all course modules and the written assessment, learners will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Learners will need to complete all 2 course elements (Learning Component and Post-course assessment) to be able to download their certificate of completion.
