Mental Health Management for Leaders

This course is specifically designed for leaders in the workplace. Leaders can also refer to supervisors, lead hands, managers, directors, and/or CEOs.

This course will provide leaders with mental health literacy, knowledge, skills, and tools to facilitate communication, manage behaviours, support, and assist employees struggling with their mental health. Leaders will identify strategies and approaches that can be implemented to better employee mental health.

This course will also equip leaders to develop and implement a mental health and well-being culture that will ultimately serve to benefit workplace by maintaining and/or bettering employee mental health, worker retention, and efficiency and provide cost-benefits to the employer.

Goals and Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be more:

  • Aware: of myths and stigma surrounding mental health and recognize its impact in the workplace.
  • Understanding: of mental health and how it affects workers and working conditions, specifically for leaders.
  • Responsible: in responding to workers in distress and deal with the impacts of mental health and mental illness in the workplace.
  • Prepared: in applying practical strategies in addressing mental health concerns in the workplace.
Audience

This course is designed for anyone in lead or supervisory roles in the workplace. Mid to high-level executives will also benefit from this training.

Course Format and Organization

This course is structured as a 6-hour instructor-led course using a combination of both lecture-based and practical learning components.

Pre-requisites

Previous mental health knowledge, education and/or experience is an asset but not required.

Course Expectations

During the instruction of the course, participants are requested to:

  • Participate in course content,
  • Engage in the learning activities, and
  • Ask questions for clarification.

Course Evaluation

The participants will be informally assessed throughout the course using learning activities and a final quiz. Participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Eligible toward the requirements for Joint Health and Safety Committee training for new members or annual training in British Columbia; may be eligible in other jurisdictions as well.
