Warehouse Safety

Warehouse Safety is an awareness-level course that helps learners recognize potential hazards in the warehouse workplace and learn how to prevent risks. It will help learners understand their responsibilities for general safety principles, safe stacking and material storage, pallet safety, industrial storage racking safety, mobile equipment and pedestrian safety, and loading dock safety.

Goals and Objectives

By the end of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Describe the general safety principles that affect warehouse safety
  • Understand the importance of safe stacking, apply core rules for stable stacking, and distinguish between safe and unsafe stacking
  • Recognize types of pallets, understand pallet capacity, determine when to reject a pallet, and distinguish between temporary and reusable pallets
  • Identify the causes of racking accidents, understand your role in daily inspection of racking, identify safe clearances around racking, and know when to report racking deficiencies
  • Understand the risks relating to working around mobile equipment, identify the requirements for operators, understand the requirements relating to pre-shift inspections, recognize the risks for pedestrians, and recall the importance of having certain safe work procedures
  • Identify key hazards relating to loading docks, recall the importance of having certain safe work procedures relating to loading docks, and understand the general emergency response at loading docks

Audience

This course is intended for anyone who works in a warehouse, but in particular this course is ideal for:

  • managers,
  • supervisors,
  • OHS staff, and
  • medium and large sized businesses.

This course is required for any employee who:

  • works in a warehouse
  • works in a warehouse distribution centre

Course Length and Format

The eLearning course is structured using self-paced online components including various practical learning activities in each module. Modules are supported with various resources and examples. It is estimated to take 2 hours to complete the training. We recommend completing the course in one sitting, but it does not need to be, as your progress will be tracked throughout.

Participants must have access to a laptop/desktop computer or iPad/tablet to attend the training sessions.  A good internet or WIFI connection is essential.

Pre-requisites

Previous health and safety education and/or experience is an asset but not required.

Course Evaluation

There is a written assessment for this course. Upon successful completion of all course modules and the written assessment, learners will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Learners will need to complete all 2 course elements (Learning Component and Post-course assessment) to be able to download their certificate of completion.
