The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is a Canada-wide system designed to protect workers by giving them important information about hazardous products and materials in their workplace.
If your workplace has hazardous products, then you will need to complete WHMIS training and education as per the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR) 5.6 & 5.7.
This course investigates WHMIS fundamentals, legislation, proper use of labeling, product warning identifiers, description and understanding of Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), worker training requirements and supplier, employer and worker responsibilities.
Learning modules are designed in consideration of WorkSafeBC regulatory requirements for training new members and are relevant to all BC industries.
Students will need to complete all course elements (Learning Component and Quiz) to be able to download their certificate of completion.
Prerequisites:
Previous health and safety education and/or experience is an asset but not required.
The goal of this course is to provide the learner with an overview of the WHMIS system, including legislation, hazards, pictograms, labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and WHMIS program requirements.

This course is a requirement for all employers and workers who have hazardous products used, stored, or handled at their workplace as per OHSR 5.3.

This course can be viewed on a smart phone however it has only been optimized for tablet and desktop computers.
This self-paced course will take about 2 hours to complete. Students do not need complete the entire course in one sitting as the self-paced course format allows them to continue from wherever they left off.
There is a written assessment for this course but no practical assessment. Upon successful completion of all course lessons and the written assessment, students will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.
