Hearing conservation

Noise levels above 85 decibels can harm a worker’s hearing. If the noise level is above the acceptable limit, a hearing conservation program is required.

This program should include:

  • Noise level surveys to identify hazardous noise levels in the workplace
  • Selection of adequate personal protective equipment (hearing protection)
  • Audiometric testing (also known as hearing tests) of all workers at-risk
  • Training and supervision of all workers at-risk
