Media Release | Unseen Heroes reveals the untold stories of B.C.s manufacturers and food processors through COVID-19
December 14, 2021 | CHILLIWACK – The Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC was privileged to capture the inspiring stories of British Columbia’s manufacturers and food processors through the pandemic. These essential workers kept Canada’s supply chain going through COVID-19 – in the face of sometimes overwhelming health, safety, and supply chain challenges. Their work never stopped – and continues today – making the season brighter for all of us.
Unseen Heroes features seventeen diverse B.C. manufacturers from across the province. This short documentary film shares their challenges – and triumphs – in keeping their people safe and their businesses going through the pandemic.
While many of us stayed home during the early days of the pandemic, as essential service workers, manufacturing workers continued to go to work – despite many unknowns about the risks they might be facing.
The film explores the significant impacts on workers’ health–and business sustainability – from COVID-19. In interviews and footage inside the plants, wineries, and production facilities of B.C., “Unseen Heroes” reveals the unique challenges in manufacturing – including closely spaced workers, loud environments which make mask-wearing complicated, supply chain disruptions, and skilled worker shortages.
“2020 was an exceptionally challenging year for manufacturing in British Columbia,” said Lisa McGuire, CEO of the Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC, “Despite the difficulties, B.C. businesses went above and beyond to keep their people safe while producing the essential goods we all rely on.”
