George Abbott
Board Chair
Chair of the Board of Technical Safety BC, George Abbott is a veteran politician and author with a PhD in political science from the University of Victoria. In addition to his role with Technical Safety, George is Chair of the Board of the Institute for Health System Transformation and Sustainability and a Director on the Board of the Land Title and Survey Authority. George is also president of the public policy and government consulting firm Circle Square Solutions.
In 2018, George was appointed as co-chair of the provincial review of the 2017 fire and flood season; the resulting report, Addressing the New Normal, continues to help guide provincial policy in that area. In 2020, George published his first book: <em>Big Promises, Small Government</em>. He looks forward to the publication of a second book, on indigenous relations, this year.
First elected as an MLA for the Shuswap in 1996, George has served as Minister of Education; Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation; Minister of Health; Minister of Community, Aboriginal and Women’s Services; and Minister of Sustainable Resource Management.
