605: Participate in OHS strategy development

Strategy development requires OHS professionals to both lead and contribute to the organization’s strategic direction, considering the bigger picture while setting priorities and charting the way forward. Individuals should identify and consider emerging issues and development opportunities, along with associated risks, while articulating a series of new innovative and sustainable business options and recommendations. Maintaining a broad strategic perspective while identifying and focusing on crucial drivers will be critical to OHS and to the wider business.

The OHS professional evaluates interdependencies of OHS risks and other risks in the organization, including operational risks, internal and external uncertainties and opportunities, along with possible operational failure points and associated business and resource implications. They are able to fully appreciate the potential impact of OHS risk realization on the business and can articulate that in commercial terms as well as the usual moral, ethical and financial arguments.
