Contractor Safety

The purpose of the Contractor Safety online course is to introduce OHS issues you should prepare for when bringing an outside contractor into your workplace. This course is intended to provide basic knowledge of risks, legal requirements, and the best practices associated with managing contractor safety for anyone acting in the capacity of an owner, employer, or prime contractor in the manufacturing sector.

Goals and Objectives

By the end of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Differentiate roles and responsibilities, including the roles of workplace owners, employers, prime contractors, and supervisors
  • Recognize OHS considerations when bringing in contractors to an existing workplace
  • Identify best practices relating to contractor selection
  • Understand best practices to achieve adequate communication between employers and contractors
  • Identify best practices to monitor contractor safety performance and fulfill OHS obligations
  • Understand the main elements of a contractor safety management program

This course is intended for supervisors, managers, employers, owners, and contractors.

Course Length and Format

The eLearning course is structured using self-paced online components including various learning activities in each module. It is estimated to take 2 hours to complete the training. We recommend completing the course in one sitting, but it does not need to be, as your progress will be tracked throughout.

Participants must have access to a laptop/desktop computer or iPad/tablet to attend the training sessions.  A good internet or WIFI connection is essential.

Pre-requisites

Previous health and safety education and/or experience is an asset but not required.

Course Evaluation

There is a written assessment for this course. Upon successful completion of all course modules and the written assessment, learners will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Learners will need to complete all 2 course elements (Learning Component and Post-course assessment) to be able to download their certificate of completion.
