Risk Management

Risk management is critical for minimizing negative impacts, maximizing opportunities, and ensuring organizational success. The purpose of this online course is to introduce learners to the principles of effective risk management. Whether managing risks for a small business or a large corporation, the skills gained through this course will help you make informed decisions and implement effective strategies.

Goals and Objectives

By the end of this course, the learners should:

  • Recognize the types of risks and principles of effective risk management
  • Identify the seven R’s and four T’s for managing and responding to risks
  • Analyze risks using structured templates and evaluation tools
  • Differentiate between strategies to mitigate risks effectively
  • Evaluate controls to mitigate risks, considering cost, compliance, and sustainability
  • Develop contingency plans detailing actions for major risks
  • Formulate a framework to track and measure risk management efforts
  • Evaluate the framework through reviews to identify improvements
  • Create a personal action plan to implement risk management strategies

This course is intended to reach a wide audience including managers, supervisors and JHSC members or safety committee members in any industry sector.

Course Length and Format

The eLearning course is structured using self-paced online components including various learning activities in each module. Modules are supported with resources and examples. It is estimated to take 2 hours to complete the training. We recommend completing the course in one sitting, but it does not need to be, as your progress will be tracked throughout.

Participants must have access to a laptop/desktop computer or iPad/tablet to attend the training sessions.  A good internet or WIFI connection is essential.

Pre-requisites

Previous health and safety education and/or experience is an asset but not required.

Course Evaluation

There is a written assessment for this course. Upon successful completion of all course modules and the written assessment, learners will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. Learners will need to complete all course elements (Learning Component and Post-course assessment) to be able to download their certificate of completion.
